Writing is one of the hardest art forms. If your child is having trouble and they are sitting the selective test, it’s best to start them early. 

Writing in the Selective Test has changed. It is no longer open-ended creative writing, persuasive writing or informative writing. 

Your child might write a newspaper report / recount (2021) or a science-fiction diary entry (2022). Understanding of text types is therefore critical. 

Do you use literary devices like colour symbolism? Are you building towards a climax in your creative? Is there a complication that propels the protagonist on a journey of growth and challenges him or her?

Did you know that when Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon, when he said the famous words, “This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind,” he was using a literary device called antithesis?
